Obituary

Barbara Ann Morgan, aged 70, of Wichita, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 6th, 2024.

Born in Yukon, Missouri to parents Harold and Geraldean McCubbins, the family later relocated to Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Southeast High School in Wichita and later earned her Bachelor's of Science from Devry University.

Finding a rival sense of humor and similar sparkling wit in Darrell Morgan, she married the love of her life and enjoyed 28 years of marriage before his untimely passing in 2003. Together, they successfully raised three children, along with a wide variety of animals, from squirrels and possums to arguably possessed dogs. The family lived in McCune, Kansas, before finally settling in Branson, Missouri.  Barbara was a valued member of Skyline Baptist Church and later Friendly Baptist Church and spent many years working for Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation.

Barbara was easily distinguished from the crowd by colors and patterns as exuberant as her personality, and her sweet soul expressed itself through her creativity and her love for Jesus and people. Barbara had a way of making friends who quickly became more like family.  While she was great at providing wise counsel when asked, she led best through her gentle example and non-judgmental acceptance.

A deft creator and connoisseur of the good and beautiful, Barbara's love of needlework in particular got her into trouble with the TSA, who unreasonably insisted she could not smuggle crochet needles during her many travels.  She created numerous beautiful quilts, unique clothing items, stuffed animals, and crocheted and knitted treasures, lovingly praying for the intended recipient with each stitch. There was hardly a medium her artistic skills could not conquer. Music was the other great passion of hers, which she was eager to pass on to her 11 grandchildren through magnanimous gifts of kazoos and particularly well-received accordions.

Most importantly, Barbara was a hardworking servant of the Kingdom of Heaven. She was a longtime member of the Baptist Church, serving by singing in the choir, playing organ and piano, teaching Sunday school, attending Bible study, leading youth groups and children's ministries, and helping start an after-school Bible club for youth, among many other activities.  She most recently attended and served faithfully at Celebration Baptist Church in Wichita.  In addition, she considered her administrative assistant position at Sharon Baptist Church to be a personal ministry.

Barbara is reunited in death with her beloved husband, parents, and parents-in-law. She will be missed here by her brother Ray McCubbins, sister Janice (Kendall) Lundy, sister-in-law Marla (Dwain) Harper, her children Daniel [Heather] Morgan, Jesse [Alicia] Morgan, and Kelly [Justin] Cariker, and eleven grandchildren: Acacia Morgan, Sydney Morgan, Caleb Morgan, Abby Morgan, Hannah Morgan, Adalynn Morgan, Jacob Cariker, Isaac Cariker, Emily Cariker, Molly Cariker, and Noah Cariker.

A celebration of life will be held for her Kansas friends and family on Monday 11/11/2024 at 2PM at Celebration Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. The celebration continues for her Missouri family and friends on Tuesday 11/12/2024 at 3PM at Nixa Church of the Nazarene in Nixa, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Barbara Morgan be made to EmbraceWichita.org, a ministry that supports women experiencing crisis pregnancies.

What a beautiful legacy she has left behind, but how much greater the treasures in heaven she now enjoys!
