Barbara Unger went home to be with her Lord on December 9, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on
February 22, 1939, she lived a life marked by unwavering faith, boundless love, and a heart that
touched everyone blessed to know her.

A devoted mother of five, Barbara poured her whole heart into her children, grandchildren, and
the many spouses, friends, and extended family who quickly learned that her home—and her
heart—always had room for one more. She adored her spunky dog, Cinnamon, who was her
loyal companion and constant source of joy.

Barbara faced health and mobility challenges in her later years with remarkable grace. No matter
her circumstances, she kept a positive outlook and continually praised the Lord for every
blessing in her life. Her faith was the foundation of who she was: a strong woman of God who
found joy in reading her Bible, attending church, and gathering weekly with her beloved Bible
study group.

Known for her warmth, wisdom, and willingness to listen, Barbara was the friend people turned
to when life felt heavy. Her advice was gentle, thoughtful, and rooted in kindness. She loved
crocheting, spending time with family and friends, and being surrounded by the people she
cherished most.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Sawyer and Marie Estes Cottle of Wichita,
KS, husband, Richard Unger of Toronto, KS and her son, Robert Gates of Sedgwick, KS.

She is survived by her children Greg (Star) Gates of Wichita, Darren Gates of Tucson, AZ, Kelly
(Roy) Sporleder of Haysville, KS, and Randy Gates of Haysville, KS; thirteen grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.

Barbara will be deeply missed by all who loved her, but her legacy of faith, love, and kindness
will continue to live on in every life she touched.

Graveside service on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Toronto, KS; followed by a
Memorial Service at 12:30 p.m. at Christian Chapel Foursquare Church, 5828 S Broadway,
Wichita KS.
