Dr. Carol A. Gregory (Sleeper),  age 92, retired pathologist, passed away peacefully at her home in Wichita, KS, on July 10, 2025.

She was born on June 5, 1933, to Otis J. Morgans and Marjorie E. (Moore) Morgans in Joplin, MO.   Her father's job required the family to move frequently so she grew up in various cities in the midwestern and southwestern states, including Oklahoma, Missouri, Arizona, and Nevada.  She graduated from high school in Peru, Nebraska in 1951.

After high school she studied pre-med at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.  She was accepted into the University of Kansas School of Medicine, a rare accomplishment for a woman in the 1950s.  She was 1 of only 4 women in her class of 125.  She was chosen for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  She married Donald C. Sleeper, another medical student, in 1955 and they both graduated in 1958.  They had 4 children together and divorced in 1978.  Throughout her career, she practiced in Kansas, New Mexico, Missouri and Oklahoma.  She retired in 1998.

In 1979, she married William E. Gregory.  They were married for over 45 years at the time of her death.  They enjoyed many activities together over the years, including national and international travel, antiquing, and attending estate sales and auctions.  Carol loved music of many genres but was especially fond of classical music.  She was a voracious reader for most of her life.  Many will remember Carol for her off-the-wall sense of humor.

Carol was preceded in death by a son, Kirk, and her sister, Kathy Morse.  She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Wichita; son, Stephen Sleeper (Bonnie) of Punta Gorda, Florida; daughters, Julie Harbert of Wichita and Dawn Sleeper (Alan May) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, James E. Morgans (Diane Donaghy) of Tijeras, New Mexico; niece and stand-in granddaughter Katie Morgans-Harrer (Robert) and their daughter Hazel; stepdaughter Donna Randle (Frank), of Las Vegas, Nevada; stepson Marc Gregory (Angel) of Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Per her wishes, there will be no service.  A private scattering of ashes will be held by the family.
