Carolyn "Sue" Rose, 84, said goodbye, and good riddance, to her tired and painful old body on Aug. 5th, 2025. She was born December 21, 1940, the fourth of six children, to Clarence Bethea and Mabel (Rich) Bethea. Her father Clarence always called the two older girls "sister Sue", so when she was born her mother said she would give him a "sister Sue" and gave he "Sue" as a middle name. She was henceforth always known as Sue, much to her disappointment.

She grew up in Planview in Wichita in a neighborhood filled with lots of other kids that she amazed with her jacks playing skills (her words no ours). Music was always important to Sue, and she played viola (first chair) throughout her school years. Already there were signs of her impending "Crazy Cat Lady" career, as every photograph of these early years includes a cat or two. Sue graduated from Wichita West High School in 1958. She met and married the love of her life, Glen Raymond Rose, in August of the same year after a whirlwind six-month romance. This union produced three smart, goodlooking kids. She hit the ground running every morning, and life was a rollicking hood time, moving from pillar to post every year or so. After 19 short years of marriage, the love of her life left this world early, leaving her to finish raising three smart, good looking, and traumatized. Kids. She immediately went to work as a keypunch operator, and later as a big mainframe computer operator. All you youngsters will need to Google those terms. After the invention of the personal computers (How did people live before that?), she went into
the medical field where she became a certified medical coder, retiring from Wichita Urology Group in 2007. She always had a passion for music, and sang with the Sweet Adelines, and directed a Choir of cantankerous older ladies in her middle-aged years. But her true passion and
vocation, was that of a "Crazy Cat Lady". She always had at least two cats and could never stand to see a stray cat go hungry. She started her own cat colony these last few years by feeding the stray cats in the neighborhood. She loved her cats, and they flocked to her. If you are in need of a cat or kitten, we can surely hook you up.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mabel Bethea, her brothers Richard and Jim Bethea, two sisters Mary Conaulty and Ann Hensley, her beloved husband, Glen Rose, and eldest son Russell Rose.

She is survived by a sister, Kathy (Charlie) Bevan, daughter Laura Young, and son Michael (Kim) Rose, two granddaughters Jessica (Peter) Gaskamp, Ashley Young, two grandsons, David (Autumn) Rose, Erik Rose, and four of the cutest, most amazing great grandkids.

Services will be held Saturday September 6th, 2025, at 2:00 in the afternoon at Baker Funeral Home West 3224 N. Tyler Rd.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kansas Humaine Society in Wichita, or, better yet, you could tame the scraggly stray cat in your neighborhood and give it a loving home and join the ranks of the "Crazy Cat People". Sue will be there to greet you.
