A cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away in Wichita, Kansas. Darl was born June 9, 1931 in the rural area outside of South Haven, Kansas.

He lived a life marked by dedication, love, and commitment. A retired truck driver from Graves Truckline Inc., he demonstrated a remarkable talent and loyalty as a freight transportation specialist throughout his 40+ year career. His professional life was complimented by his active role as an elected Teamster Union 795 Union Steward and his participation in the local Midian Shrine organization. Darl was affectionately known as "Swede" by his family and friends, a CB handle and nickname that reflected his love of the road and paid homage to his family heritage.

Darl is survived by his loving wife Edith (Edie) Smith, who was blessed with over 34 years of marriage full of an abundance of love, grace, fun, and adventure. His loving family includes his children Roy Smith and Troy Smith (Suzette) of Wichita; His stepdaughters Simona Farrow (John) of Liberal, Dena Parman of Wichita; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many great friends, and his "adopted" son Sanford Fyler (Joy) of Wichita. He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Josephine Smith (Berggren), his Brother Louis Blaine Smith (Elizabeth), his sister Bernice Bamford (Ted), and his sister Darlene Schofner (Earl).

A celebration of Darl's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. October 2nd at Bethel Baptist Church, 3600 W. Second St., Wichita, KS 67203. Family Luncheon to follow. Graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven KS at approximately 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Darl's name may be directed to Home & Health Hospice of Kansas or BrightFocus Foundation, an organization focused on finding a cure for macular degeneration.
