Obituary for Darlene Sue Hultman

Darlene, born on May 26, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her home on March 24, 2025, at the age of 81.

She was the beloved daughter of Vida Newberry and Wiley Meyer, and the cherished sister of Dennis Meyer, Wiley Meyer Jr., and Kathy Meyer. She was a devoted mother to Jamie Bubeck and Brock Hultman, a proud grandmother to Connor Roy, Schaye Roy, and Danny and Beth Stang, and a joyful great-grandmother to Jayceon, Zoey, Jahier, Zylah, Austin, and Harper.

A graduate of Maize High School in 1962, she went on to attend Southern Nazarene University and later took college courses to continue her education. She built a remarkable career with the City of Wichita, where she worked for nearly 30 years as a chief building inspector. In that role, she was responsible for ensuring both residential and commercial new construction and remodels met safety and permitting standards. Her work ethic, dedication, and no-nonsense attitude earned her deep respect from her peers and her community.

Faith was an important part of her life. A lifelong Christian, she was active in church life over the years and especially loved her time at Calvary Chapel. It was her favorite church, and during the years she attended, she enjoyed helping with events and supporting the congregation however she could.

She was tough as nails but full of heart—someone who was quick to laugh at herself, who didn't let age define her, and who loved to be a big kid whenever she had the chance. Whether it was water skiing, fishing, watching cowboy shows, or shopping, she found joy in the simple things and especially in being outdoors and at Table Rock Lake. She had a deep love for sweets—particularly peeps (but only if they were dried out), orange pop, lemon cake, and sweet potatoes.

Above all, she was proud to be a mother and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy, and she took every opportunity to brag about them. She was fun-loving, spontaneous, deeply generous, and always ready to lend a hand to someone in need.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of her life will be held this summer, where friends and family can come together to share memories, laughter, and love.
