Obituary

Debbie Jane Acuna, 73, of Wichita, Kansas. Loving Daughter, Mother, Sister, and Aunt, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at her care home.

Debbie was born on November 19, 1952, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born to Carol and David Acuna; she was the oldest of 4 siblings. Debbie attended Rea Woodman Elementary School, Truesdell Junior High, and South High School. Debbie graduated in 1970. After high school, Debbie started working as an insurance adjuster for Crawford and Co., where she would be employed for 35 years until the company closed. After Crawford and Co. closed, she went on to work at Speedy Cash in their accounting department until she retired in 2018. In that time, Debbie met Rodger Brown, and they married in 1974 and had the greatest blessing of her life, a baby girl named Arika. Debbie loved being a mother; she would go on to raise Arika in the house she and Rodger purchased in 1974 and lived in until she was placed in her care home in November 2025. One of Debbie's greatest accomplishments in life was her family, especially her daughter Arika; she raised her to be strong, independent, and intelligent. Debbie loved her sisters and brother so much that all her nieces, nephews, and adopted children made her beam with pride.

Debbie loved to crochet; she crocheted many blankets, etc. She crocheted everyone in the family a blanket, most recently crocheting a baby blanket for her great-nephew Joseph, before she passed. She also loved to work in her garden/flower beds. Debbie loved cooking/baking; she would cook for anyone, and her favorite time of year was baking goodies with Arika at Christmas time. Debbie loved animals; her dogs Cesar (passed) and Betty were her greatest companions in life. She loved them so much and spoiled them as any little dogs should be.

Debbie didn't know a stranger and made friends wherever she was. People couldn't help but fall in love with her kind spirit, generosity, infectious smile, and loving heart. She had countless friends, and many of them were like family to her. She loved with all her heart and would do anything for anyone. In her later years, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal disease, and when she could no longer live in her home, she was placed in memory care. The people in her home loved her, and she loved them. They would often say her smile lit up a room, she was ornery, and she had a special place in their heart. The countless people who showed up and cared for her, and the people whom she left a lasting impact on, will always cherish the friendship they had with her.

The world just lost an angel, but I lost my whole life! I love you, Momma. – Arika
