Edwinna (Combs) Carp passed away peacefully at her home in Wichita, on March 1, 2025.

Edwinna was joyously welcomed by Faris and Edna Combs on April 1, 1929, in Butterfield, Missouri. Due to her mother suffering from 'milk leg' after her birth, Edwinna was an only child. She spent her early years in Butterfield, until her family moved to Wichita when she was in second grade so her dad could find work.

Edwinna was privileged to be raised in a Christian home where she was taught the Bible and taken to church regularly. It was at a revival meeting she attended with her parents that she claimed the Christian faith as her own. When the invitation came to repent and believe, she felt compelled to respond.

She grew up in Wichita and graduated from North High School in 1947. Following a year of secretarial school at Friends University, she worked in an office for an oil man in downtown Wichita. She acquired a taste for coffee during this time because it was the cheapest thing she could buy on her break. She worked until her marriage to Wallace F Carp on April 11, 1959, which took her from the city to the farm where they produced many thousands of hogs over the years. It was when she changed her name for marriage that she finally gave herself a middle name, Carole. A year later, they moved into their house on North Hoover and welcomed their first son, William, completing their family two and a half years later with the addition of another son, David.

For 53 years, until his death in 2012, Edwinna was a wonderful wife to Wally, never complaining about his irregular hours, long days or smelly clothes. She was known to be a top notch cook and homemaker. This was one way she showed her love for her family. She was very hospitable, making sure everyone in her home felt welcomed. She was so gracious, both her daughters-in-law loved living next door to her!

A great joy in her life was becoming a grandmother. With her boys living on either side of her, access to grandchildren was only steps away. She was generous with her time, spending many hours babysitting over the years. She was also generous with Skittles and Mike & Ikes!

Edwinna was predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her son, Bill and wife Joy, grandsons Brandon Carp and Gavin Carp and wife, Vivian, and son David and wife Susan, and granddaughters Megan (Carp) Hicks and husband Clayton,  Kate Carp, Ellie (Carp) Lowry and husband Joey, and great granddaughter Caroline Hicks, who was the apple of her eye. A special thanks from the family to her long time caregiver, Tina Comacho, who enabled her to fulfill her wish of staying at home.

A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Cornerstone Bible Church 2535 N. Amidon Ave. Wichita, KS 67204. The burial will take place first at 9:30 A.M. at Resthaven Cemetery 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209 with the Memorial service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Cornerstone Bible Church.

A memorial has been established in her name at Cornerstone Bible Church, 2535 N Amidon Ave, Wichita, KS.
