Elmer LeRoy Welch, 87, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born March 8, 1938, in Clay Center, Kansas, Elmer lived a life marked by humility, quiet strength, and unwavering love for those around him.

He was the son of Charles Thomas Welch and Thelma May Morris, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne Roberta Welch (McKeown), with whom he shared many meaningful years of marriage.

Elmer is survived by his children: David L. Welch, Sheryl A. Thomas (Welch), and Laurie L. Atkins (Welch), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were a source of deep pride and joy in his later years.

He is also survived by his brother Donald Welch and sisters Beverly Smith (Welch), Linda Hammon (Terrell), and Dorthy Terrell. He was preceded in death by siblings Robert Temps (Welch), Roberta Aragon (Terrell), and David Terrell.

Though he never sought titles or recognition, Elmer's legacy is found in the quiet moments: a kind word to a stranger, laughter shared with friends, the steady rhythm of a guitar beneath his fingers, and the love he gave freely to his family.

In his final days, Elmer's faith in Jesus Christ became the cornerstone of his peace. He was baptized by profession of faith in 2025, a moment cherished by his family and witnessed with gratitude. He often spoke of talking with God and, even in his weakness, gave God the glory.

Elmer's favorite things included playing six-string instruments, visiting with family and friends, and offering warmth to anyone who crossed his path. Whether it was a neighbor, a nurse, or someone he'd just met - Elmer made them feel like family.

A private memorial will be held to celebrate his life and give thanks for his salvation. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, you take a moment to extend kindness to a stranger, play a song in his memory, or simply say a prayer of thanks - because Elmer would've done the same for you.
