Obituary

Farrel L. Jones was born June 18, 1941, in Watonga, OK and his parents were William Lee and Bessie Ann Spain Jones. He died June 23, 2025, in Wichita, KS, Wesley Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Minor Jones; son, Larry D. Jones, both of Wichita; sister, Judy Peltzer; niece, Geri Lynn Sargent; great-nephew, Ted Brewer, all from Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, David Brewer.

Farrel attended 16 different schools before going to and graduating from North East High School in Oklahoma City. He then attended the University of Central Oklahoma to get his BS and then MS in Education. He began his teaching career in Cheney Middle School for one year (1966) then moved to Goddard Middle School to continue his 30 year teaching career. Farrel served as a teacher, coach and administrator at both Goddard High School and Middle School. He was head football coach for 15 years, but coached basketball, wrestling, track, golf as well as driver's ed.

Farrel was a charter member of Reflection Ridge Golf Club and was active in the men's club. He belonged to the Kansas Coaches Associations and maintained close relations with many coaches across the area through the years. He was an avid University of Oklahoma fan… especially football. Upon retirement, he played lots of golf and loved to visit friends. Marilyn and he would take "golf trips" from one coast to the other, always stopping to see friends along the way. He stayed in contact with many high school friends.

After leading GHS football to the state finals in 1988, for the first time, he coached in the 1989 Kansas Shrine Bowl. He also coached three years the Kansas Charity All-Star Classic football games for KETCH.

The family will have a graveside service. A celebration of life will be held from 2pm - 4pm on Sunday, July 20, at the Reflection Ridge Golf Club.
