Glenn Roger Dettmann was born on January 2, 1933, to Pearl (Harrington) Dettmann, age 22, and Fred Ernest Dettmann, age 29, 7 miles south of Stewart, Minnesota, in a humble 2-room house on an 80-acre prairie farm. Glenn attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in District 9 until fifth grade. When Glenn was 9, the family moved 3 miles south of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, to a 511-acre farm, where Glenn attended Buffalo Lake school for 3 weeks into the 9th grade, and that's when he started his full-time farming career. Glenn was confirmed at the Methodist Church by Rev. Elsey Hartmond. Glenn bought his first farm at the age of 18 and at the age of 23 was drafted into the U.S Army for two years from 1956 –
1958. On Christmas Eve 1956 in El Paso, Tx, he married Marlys Fischer from Buffalo Lake, and they lived on the 1400-acre cattle farm in Bolivar, Mo for 2 years before moving back to the Buffalo Lake farm for the rest of his farming career. They divorced in 1980, and in 1989, Glenn retired from farming and moved to Lost Bridge Village in Garfield, Arkansas. That is where he met Leslie (Bell) Johnson, and they were married on April 16th, 1998.

In 2009, Glenn and Leslie helped create God's Pantry in Garfield, AR, which is in its 16th year of operation. Glenn enjoyed working and maintaining the roads and the community improvements while they resided in Lost Bridge. Glenn and Leslie were traveling partners and shared many joyful experiences. They spent their summers with their grandkids on the lake.

Glenn was an excellent pilot. He was a generous soul who made everyone feel welcome and had a great sense of humor. Glenn was admired by all who knew him.

Glenn is survived by his wife Leslie of 28 years, his stepson Scott Johnson, wife Karlee, his grandchildren Kassidy Johnson and Jake Johnson. Sister in laws, Marlene Hanson and Barbara Bower and husband Steve, along with multiple nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday April 17, 2026, at Baker Funeral Home West Chapel with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Wichita, KS.
