Ida “Lou” (Love) Hammock of Leonard, Texas, passed away July 4, 2026, in the home of her daughter, “Tammy”, where she had resided for the past year along with her son-in-law, David, and her beloved dog Toby in Haysville, Kansas. She celebrated Independence Day in Heaven, free from suffering and sorrow. She received good care from Interim Home Health and Phoenix Home Care and Hospice of Wichita, KS, in the months before death.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas Charles Love (TC), and Margaret Louise (O’Guinn) Love; husband of 40 years, Russell Hillary Hammock; sisters Patricia Ann Smith, of Red Oak, TX, and Ida Mae Bussell of Tybee Island, GA; sons Charles Thomas Tate Jr (Tommy/Bubba) and Dennis Russell Hammock both of Leonard, TX; and daughter Tina Rene’ Clark of Bonham, TX. 2 brothers-in-law and 5 sisters-in-law by marriage.

She is survived by her daughter Tamara “Tammy” Elaine (Tate) Hood and son-in-law David Leonard Hood of Haysville, KS; granddaughter Jennifer Delight (Hood) Merrill and husband Joshua Ian Merrill; great grandchildren Carson Jack, Hudson Owen, Oaklee Mae, and Skyler Gray of Wilburton, OK; granddaughter Kyrstal Rene’ Ball of Bonham, TX; great granddaughter Breana Rene’ Ball of Bonham, TX; grandson Jeremy Lynn Clark of Bonham, TX; granddaughter Haley Erin (Brown) Malone, husband Jeremy Christopher Malone; great grandchildren McKinlee Faye Brown and Russell Grant McBrayer of Ivanhoe, TX. Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and their spouses, and countless friends. 

Lou spent her life as a devoted caregiver for her 4 children, her grandmother, a myriad of farm animals and pets, and later for her husband when he became disabled in accident. She retired after 20+ years from Marking Systems of Dallas, TX as manager in the shipping and receiving department. Lou came to Christ in her adult years and easily shared her faith with others. As an active member in several Baptist churches, she was known for her potluck fried chicken, salmon patties and pineapple square cake. Always desiring to be an encouragement she loved to send carefully chosen cards with thoughtful words that she wrote by hand. She had a passion for the color purple, horses, flowers and birds, in particular hummingbirds. From a teenager, she was a Hollywood and TV buff.

A memorial service will be held at Valley Creek Baptist Church, 3615 FM 896, Leonard, TX 75452 on Friday, September 11, 2026, 11:00 am. Family will receive guests at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Pyles Prairie Cemetery, Kemp, TX, on Saturday, September 12, 10:00 am. A memorial has been set with Valley Creek Baptist Church Mission Fund. 

Known for her kindness and hospitality, and compassion she will be greatly missed by many family, friends and neighbors. Her greatest desire was to see each of you in Heaven one day.
