James "Jim"
B. Daley
Mar 18, 1949 — Jan 19, 2025
Wichita
James "Jim" Bernard Daley was born on March 18, 1949 to Bernard Daley and Mary Jo (McGannon) Daley in Parsons, Kansas.
James, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 75. His life was a testament to love, laughter, and the joy of learning, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jim was the beloved husband of Cathie for 42 years. Together, they created a life filled with shared experiences and lasting memories. Jim dedicated 42 years of his life to the U.S. Postal Service. A career that he thoroughly loved and enjoyed doing. After retiring from the Postal Service, Jim found fulfillment in part-time work as a school bus driver. He took great joy in safely transporting children to school each day, bringing a familiar and friendly face to their mornings and brightening their days with his warmth and kindness.
Jim was a lifelong learner, earning his bachelor's degree in English and History from Wichita State University. His love for reading was insatiable—you couldn't recommend a book he wouldn't eagerly pick up and devour.
Jim's interests didn't end with books and history. He had many passions in life that enriched the lives of those around him. He had a passion for motorcycles, the freedom of the open road and planning memorable cross-country family road trips. Jim also was a diverse collector of items that piqued his interest. You could try your best, but there was no beating Jim at trivia. Whether playing a game or just having a casual conversation, Jim's wit, humor, and endless facts always made things interesting.
Above all, Jim was known for his immense love and care for others. His generosity, kindness, and thoughtful nature were evident in everything he did. Whether it was through his role as a husband, father, grandfather, or friend, Jim's warmth and willingness to share his wisdom made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Bernard and Mary Jo Daley and his beloved dog Dexter.
Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cathie Daley; siblings Joe Daley, John Daley, Mary Ann Truex, Margaret Myers, Kathleen Hanna, Jane Bedard, Julia Adams, and Lisa Zachary; children Brian Daley, Amy Davis, Craig Daley, and Elizabeth Gaither; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
