Obituary

James Michael Culp (Jim)
September 2, 1946 – April 6, 2025

James Michael Culp (Jim) was born in Oakland, California, spent many years in Colorado, and settled in his retirement in Wichita, Kansas, where he passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 78.

A proud Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, Jim was a man whose heart was as steady as his hands. Whether he was fixing something around the house or helping a stranger in need, he lived with purpose and kindness every day of his life.

After 30 years of dedicated work at Stolle Machinery in Denver, Colorado, Jim retired in 2015, but he never stopped working in service to others. He served in many ways, including volunteering several times a week at the Good Neighbor Center in Wichita. Always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or brighten someone's day, Jim made service a way of life.

Jim was a faithful member of Olivet Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas, and a former member of Majestic View Baptist Church in Kiowa, Colorado. His love for God, people, and community guided every aspect of his life.

He loved tinkering, fixing, and figuring things out, often with a cup of tea nearby and a quiet smile on his face. But his greatest joy came from helping others—family, friends, neighbors, and even those he had just met.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; daughters Christina and Lenore; sons Tyson and Brandon; his sister, Andrea; and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Ben, Ava, and Zoe. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and quiet strength.

A Celebration of Life service, honoring Jim, will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Olivet Baptist Church, 3440 W 13th Street, Wichita, KS 67203.

As we honor Jim's memory, may we each find small ways to serve, love, and lift others, just as he did every single day.
