Jesse R. Maus, 86, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on August 3, 2025. He was born on July 18, 1939, in Wichita to Pauline and Ralph Maus.

Jesse lived a life devoted to service and to helping others. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, then began a long career with the Wichita Fire Department. Following retirement, he continued serving his community through the Kechi Sheriff's Department, the Peace Corps in Sri Lanka, and with his church group rebuilding homes lost in Hurricane Katrina. He also spent countless hours volunteering with friends to build wheelchair ramps for those in need.

A skilled builder and problem-solver, Jesse had a gift for showing up exactly when an extra set of hands was needed—whether running a tractor, remodeling a basement, or tackling electrical and plumbing work. His talents blessed many, and his generosity was given freely.

Jesse had a love of motorcycles and rode through all the mainland states, often traveling to Washington, Wisconsin, and Texas to visit family and friends. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling to play. Known for his sharp wit, sarcasm, and humor, Jesse's stories brought joy and laughter to those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and Ralph Maus; his siblings, Raymond Maus and Juanita (Maus) Lombardo; and his children, James Michael Maus and Diana Lynn Maus. He is survived by his children, Deborah Ann Culverhouse, Anna Marie (David deceased) Stalcup, and Thomas (Linda) Maus, and by his grandchildren, Ross Culverhouse and Ariel Montero.

Jesse chose cremation and will rest with his family at Jamesburg Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.

Jesse will be remembered as a man who gave more than he received, who lived with humor and kindness, and who never hesitated to lend his strength to others. His family and friends take comfort in imagining him on a motorcycle once more, setting off on new adventures.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, at St. John the evangelist Catholic Church 18630 W. 71st St. S., Viola, KS 67149 with the rosary at 10 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow with military honors held at Jamesburg Cemetery, 1815 North Tyler Rd., Wichita, KS.
