Judith Lynn Salo, 75, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026. Born on November 22, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas at St. Francis Hospital, Judi was the beloved daughter of Francis Joseph Gampper and Olive Ann (Redmon) Gampper. The family moved to the Kansas City area in 1956, where she spent her childhood.

Judi graduated from Bishop Miege High School in 1968. She went on to graduate from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. Judi pledged Kappa Delta sorority and continued to maintain friendships from high school and college until her passing. Judi’s passion was teaching for over 40 years where she was beloved by her students, spending the majority of her career teaching middle school. Her gift for teaching impacted colleagues and students alike, and her spunk to put up with ornery middle schoolers won’t soon be forgotten. She retired in 2016 and, up until her death, would still be stopped by former students when she was out and about.

Judi was a devoted spouse and then caregiver to her late husband, Charles Salo, who passed in 2025. She was also a loving mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and cherished friend. She will be remembered for her kindness, great sense of humor, hospitality, joyful spirit, and love of sparkle. She had a special love for supporting her kids and grandkids in all their endeavors, reading a good book, cooking and baking for others, a good card game with friends, and traveling to new places. Above all, Judi treasured time spent with family. Whether it was a home-cooked meal, the holidays, or spending time with her grandkids, the moments shared with those she loved most were always what made her happiest.

Judi is survived by her daughters, Kate Michelle Dove (Rob Voelker ) and Lauren Elizabeth Barnes (Bret Barnes); grandchildren, Mallory and Pete Voelker and Lola and Cash Barnes; siblings, JoAnn Gampper, Janice Ager, Robert F. Gampper, Joyce Stephenson, and Jerrie Holmes; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Judi was preceded in death by her spouse, parents, and infant daughter, Annie Elizabeth. A celebration of life and birthday party will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2026, at The Atreeum Greenhouse Venue at 7445 N. Woodlawn Blvd, Valley Center, KS 67147. Please join the family for a come-and-go celebration from 1:00-4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Judi by spending time with those you love and finding joy in the small things. Most importantly, Judi leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will continue to live on through everyone fortunate enough to have known her. She was a friend to all and had a way of making others feel important. We will always remember her warm smile and calming demeanor. We will miss her every day and love her forever.
