Landon Shawnlee Carpenter, 42, passed away on June 18, 2025, in Wichita surrounded by family. He was born on December 21, 1982, in Wichita to loving parents Richard Carpenter and Karen (Gehrer) Wood. He graduated from Bishop Carroll in 2001 and later received his associate's degree in architectural design technology from Wichita Area Technical College. He was the proud father of Keaton Carpenter, truly his pride and joy. Landon cherished every moment spent with Keaton and took immense pride in watching him grow into the young man he is today.
Landon enjoyed the arts in many regards, most notably as the lead singer of local band, Opossum Rocket. He also loved drawing, playing old-school video games, and indulging in as much music as he could fit into a day. He had a compassionate love for his friends and family, always putting the people he cared about at the center of his life. Landon also had a deep affection for animals, especially his dogs who brought him constant joy. His Catholic faith was a steady and meaningful part of his life, guiding his values and giving him strength. He will be remembered for his numerous talents, acceptance of others, and sensational humor.
Landon is survived by parents, Richard Carpenter and Karen (Gehrer) Wood and stepfather Ron Wood; son Keaton Carpenter; siblings Ceanndra and Jonathan Carpenter; niece and nephews Trace Carpenter, Adia Feil, and Corbin and William "Rowdy" Carpenter; dog Raphael; as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by grandparents Bruce and Mary Carpenter, Dorothy Ranck, and Robert and Martha Gehrer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church 1830 West Grand Ave., Haysville, KS 67060. A rosary will be held at 9:30 AM prior. Landon's ashes will be buried in El Paso Cemetery 700 E. Kay St., Derby, KS 67037 following mass. Flowers can be sent to the church or to the funeral home, Baker Funeral Home West, 3224 N. Tyler Rd., Wichita, KS 67205.
