Larry was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather. He built his life around the people he loved most, and his greatest joy came from spending time with family, sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories that will live on for generations.

He found peace in the outdoors, whether he was fishing at sunrise or hunting in the quiet of nature. He had a talent for painting, whether it was painting houses or painting the landscape of his family farm, taking pride in every project he touched. On game days, you could always count on him cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs.

Larry faced his battle with cancer with remarkable courage, resilience, and determination for 15 years. Even through life’s greatest challenges, he continued to put his family first, showing strength, grace, and an unwavering spirit that inspired everyone around him. His perseverance was a true reflection of the man he was.

His strength, kindness, sense of humor, and unconditional love touched everyone who knew him. Although he is deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Everet & Bessy Trefethen. His brother Eugene Trefethen, and his niece Tonja Laver.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Carolyn Trefethen; his sister, Dianna Trion; his children, Michael Whitener, Chasity Whitener, Cassandra Zimmerman, and Clint Zimmerman; his grandchildren, Erika, Elisha, Dectiny, Michael III, Elizabeth, Alexis, and CJ; his treasured 6 great-grandchildren; and countless extended family members and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 6pm to 8pm, followed by a memorial service on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 2:30pm, both at Baker Funeral Home West, 3224 N Tyler Rd, Wichita, KS 67205.
