Lyle Sylvan Grewing, age 93 of Wichita, KS, passed away on May 7, 2026. Born on September 25, 1932, in Fairview, KS, to parents Eugene and Clara Grewing.

Lyle was the younger brother of sister Alice and brother Alfred. Lyle dedicated his life to education and to the students he served throughout his long career. He taught at Arkansas Avenue and Martin Elementary Schools in Wichita Public School District before continuing his career at Sedgwick Public Schools, where he coached and later became Principal. He retired as Principal and Coach at Bluestem High School in Leon, Kansas. Even after retirement, Lyle returned to Sedgwick to substitute teach and coach, continuing to invest in the lives of young people. His dedication to teaching, coaching, advocating for students, and making them laugh left a lasting impression on generations of students, colleagues, and communities. He will be remembered not only for his leadership and commitment to education, but also for the encouragement, guidance, and care he gave to those around him.

Lyle is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Grewing. Their children survive him: Bill (Sheila) Grewing, Dwight (Debrina) Grewing, and Dannie Grewing, Julie (Steve) Berner and Tina (Kevin) Kester. Grandchildren Shayla, Laurie, Alison (Mike), Tony (Shana), Zachary, Rhianna (Brady), Helena (Chris), Josh (Christina), Jared (Kendra), Bronson (Holly), Brandon (Melissa), Jake, Matt (Amanda), Jeni, Emily (Aaron), and Colton (Stephanie). Great-grandchildren Clara Grace, Cody, Colton, Sylvan, AJ, Mattea, Owen, Idgy, Daylan, Kayden, Elli, Abram, Triston (Madi), Taidon (Bailey), Brandon, Bryson, Browen, Adelyn, Boyd, Cody, Anderson, Emelia, Alden, and Aspen. Great-Great grandchildren, Doc and Leo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Lyle's honor to Beauty and Beasts Animal Rescue. If Lyle loved anything more than his students, it would have been his dogs.
