Margaret Courtney was born January 26, 1952 in El Dorado Kansas to Forest and Elizabeth Chapman. She was the youngest of three children with two older brothers, Joe and Ron. She graduated from El Dorado High School and went on to study at Butler County Community College.

She was the loving mother of two daughters and worked for over 30 years at The Wichita Eagle selling advertising. Margaret was a voracious reader with a love of crime novels. She especially loved Louise Penny and the Harry Potter books.

She loved to cook, especially for her family. In the days after 9/11, she, like everyone, was distraught and looking for a way to help. She put her love of cooking to use and baked over 100 cookies and took them to a local fire department as her way of giving back.

Margaret passed away August 24, 2026 in Wichita Kansas. She is proceeded in death by her parents Forest and Elizabeth Chapman. She is survived by; her daughters Beth Lambert and son in law Alan Lambert and Amy Courtney; brothers Joe Chapman and sister in law Sandy Chapman, and Ron Chapman and sister in law Sharon Chapman; and grandsons Forest Wallace and Quentin Courtney.

A memorial service will be held at Baker Funeral Home West, 3224 N Tyler Rd, Wichita Kansas, 67205 on Saturday, August 29th , 2026, at 2pm.
