Mary Bernice Steger, 95 passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday September 30, 2025 Born May 16, 1930, in Mineral Point, WI to Charles Dennis Bolan Sr. and Prudence Lucretia (Stoddard) Bolan.

Her life was marked by fulfillment and vibrancy. In 1955, a year that held great significance for her, she achieved two major milestones: graduating from nursing school in Madison, Wisconsin, and marrying the love of her life, Gary. As her husband's military service took them to various locations, Mary embraced each new place with a spirit of adventure, resilience, and grace, always adapting and making the most of every experience. Mary retired in 2002 from her long and dedicated career as a nurse, at the age of 72.

Mary was a lifelong learner who delighted in keeping both her hands and mind busy. As an avid reader, she introduced her children to the joys of reading, making visits to the library and bookstores a cherished outing she enjoyed throughout her life.

Mary's creativity extended beyond books. She learned to sew from her mother and, through determination, taught herself to knit and crochet. Her children and grandchildren cherish the many handmade gifts they received from her over the years. She lovingly sewed clothes, crafted toys, doll dresses, and quilts, and she knitted and crocheted sweaters, socks, mittens, scarves, and Afghans. In addition, Mary embroidered numerous sets of pillowcases and dish towels.

Mary's remarkable talent meant she could literally make anything—and she did, with love and care stitched into every piece she created.

Mary was also a wonderful cook, known for her comforting, home-cooked meals that brought the family together no matter how hectic life became. Her kitchen was filled with warmth, laughter, and the smell of something delicious on the stove. Her love, warmth, and handmade touches will be cherished always.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary J. Steger, daughter Jill A. Steger, grandson Victor Luna, 2 sisters; Margaret (Robert) Wanderscheid and Patricia (Douglas) Davis and 2 brothers; Charles (Donna) Bolan and James (Karen) Bolan and son-in-law Kenyon Schatz. Mary is survived by her children James J. Steger, Ellen (Kenyon) Schatz, Sharon L. Steger, Stephen M. Steger, Nancy (Don) Woodbridge, Mary (Garth) Bloom, Robin (Ron) Mies, brother Joseph (Jan) Bolan and sister Jean (Charles Sargent) Bolan. Mary is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed dearly.

Private Family Service will be held at Baker funeral home.
