Michael Ray Nigg age 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Valley Center, KS. He was born on June 15, 1949 to William "Bill" Nigg and Versa M. (Dotson) Nigg in Wichita, KS.
Mike was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was born to a farming family and worked tirelessly, first with his dad, then until retirement in 2018. He attended Wichita Heights High School, where he lettered in basketball and baseball before graduating in 1967. He attended Wichita State University, was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1972.
Mike was a lifelong Catholic. He served briefly on the school board at St. Jude Catholic School and was a volunteer coach for the 7th & 8th grade boys basketball team. He was a season ticket holder for WSU's Shockers basketball and women's volleyball teams.
He was appointed to the Sedgwick County Park Township Board in 2009.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, playing horseshoes, snow skiing, shooting pool and many card games. He excelled at trap shooting, winning several trophies and certificates.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jo Salyer; sons, Jason Michael and wife Marcy, Adam Ryan and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Haley B. Hooker and spouse Blake, Taylor A. Torrey and spouse Shane, Allison J. Nigg and fiancé Joey Pentola, Eli M. Nigg and Austin S. Nigg; great-grandson, Conrad Ray Hooker; brother, David Nigg; sister, Cathy Knott and spouse Brad; mother-in-law, Joyce Salyer; brother-in-law, Richard Salyer and wife Tammy; sisters-in-law, Terri Sondheimer and spouse, David; Cheryl Herbst, Tammy Barr and spouse Rob; and many nieces and nephews.
A vigil Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 27, 2025 and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 both at St. Catherines Catholic Church 3642 N. Ridge Rd. Wichita, KS with inurnment to follow at Maize Park Cemetery, 12733 W. 53rd N Maize, KS. 67101.
