Richard L. Young Jr., 67, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away July 30, 2026, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis hospital in Wichita, with family by his side. Richard was born May 16, 1959, to the late Richard L. Young, Sr. and Barbara Young.

He was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister Paula Young.

Left to cherish his memory are; his wife, Teresa Young; step-sons David Drace (Christine) and Paul Drace (Jennifer); sister Mae Lin Young (Derek Goon); brother Johnny Young; grandchildren Cassidy Drace, Luke Drace and Will Drace; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of lifelong friends.

Richard taught for USD 259 for over 20 years as a history and social studies teacher at Northeast Magnet, where he inspired countless students. He challenged them, believed in them, and pushed them to grow into the best versions of themselves. He was a steadfast champion of the little guy and carried a genuine desire to see others thrive.

At home, Richard loved old movies and westerns, often staying up late into the night with one playing. Music was a constant in his life — the Beatles, Wings and The Who were favorites, and he was known to break out some air guitar or air drums (and sing along) whenever a good song came on. In the kitchen, he cooked like he was always expecting company, regularly making enough to feed a dozen people even when there were only four at the table.

Richard loved traveling, especially to the Southwest. He and Terri traveled to Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico, nearly every summer.

Above all, Richard loved filling his home with family, friends, laughter, and good food. He never wanted the night to end, always urging everyone to stay just a little longer and making sure no one left hungry or without a smile. He welcomed anyone through his door and made every person feel valued. A born jokester and prankster, Richard lived to make people laugh and took joy in sharing his cooking and his stories.

In his final act, Richard became an organ and tissue donor, a gift that will save and improve the lives of many others. The family takes comfort knowing his generosity continues.
