Obituary

Sadie Lee Martin, 90, passed away on February 15. She was born in Belva, OK, in July 1935 to Ezra T. and Sadie M. (Crawford) Cosgrave, the second of four children. After moving to Missouri as a child, the family returned to Woodward, OK, where Sadie worked in her mother's diner.

She graduated from Woodward High School in 1953 and came to Wichita, where she attended American Business College and worked for the Garvey family and Southern Supply, Inc. She married George J. Martin in 1963, and they raised three children together. Sadie was actively involved in their lives, serving for many years as room mother, Cub Scout den leader, Girl Scout troop leader, and in PTA organizations. She was also active in the Kechi United Methodist Church, serving as its treasurer for many years, as well as in other groups and committees. She made countless taco salads for their potluck functions! In her later years, Sadie continued to be active with the church and volunteered at Open Door, the United Methodist food pantry. She was a dedicated correspondent, writing cards and letters to family and friends celebrating their birthdays and anniversaries. She loved gardening, birdwatching, reading romance paperbacks, and watching tv westerns.

She is survived by her children, John Martin of Park City, Dale Martin (Wendy Griswold) of Memphis, TN, and Kathleen Martin of Wichita; her brother, Roy Cosgrave (Sue) of Fargo, OK; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George; her parents; her brother Ezra Cosgrave, Jr., and her sister Ora I. Cosgrave.
