Shirley Kellogg, 93, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on December 6, 2024. Born in Hiawatha, Kansas, on April 19, 1931, to Evelyn and Clarence Hillyer. Shirley grew up alongside her sister Donna Lee, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories until Donna's passing in 2011.

After graduating from Hiawatha High School in 1949, Shirley pursued her calling in nursing from KU school of Medicine, a profession which demonstrated her ability to connect with others. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Darrell Kellogg, in 1953. Due to Darrell's service in the U.S. Air Force and his journey through law school, Shirley moved around the country, living in various places before eventually settling in Wichita, Kansas, where she built a life full of family, friends, and joy.

She was a devoted mother to her children, Roxanne (Monty Harrison) Kellogg, Kevin (Debbie) Kellogg, and Brett (Sandy) Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrell Kellogg, whom she was married to for 39 years, her son, Brett Kellogg, one granddaughter, Lindsay Perez, and one great granddaughter. Even after Darrell's passing in 1992, Shirley never stopped talking about their world travels with their hometown friends, always carrying his memory with her.

Shirley was known for her infectious sense of humor and her ability to light up any room with her laughter. Her home was always open to family and friends, and every holiday was a special event at her house. To this day, each of her grandchildren can find a picture of themselves displayed with love, a testament to how deeply she cherished her family. She was affectionately known as "Nanny" by her 10 grandchildren: Lindsay (Edgar) Perez, Jessica (Pinky McMillian) Ford, Spencer Crump, Stacy (Tyler) Hewitt, Kimberly Kellogg, Angie (Brandon) Leep, Brian (Amanda) Neppl, Becky (Danny) Bennett, Russell (Alix) Kellogg, and Laura Kellogg and her 18 great grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.

Shirley was a pillar of her family and a steadfast friend to many. She found joy in playing weekly bridge games, was a proud member of a competitive traveling bowling team and loved taking fun gambling trips with her friends. She was also a season ticket holder for Wichita State University basketball games and the Music Theater of Wichita, where she enjoyed many thrilling seasons. Her circle of friends was vast, with people from all walks of life who admired her kindness and vibrant spirit.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a home filled with warmth. Shirley will be remembered for her devotion to her children, her never-ending sense of humor, and the many friendships she nurtured throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held January 24th 2025, 11:00am in the Terrace Room at Botanica.
